Ok, so I have to admit...we love to eat!! Last night was no exception and was one of the better meals we have had in Singapore. We went to a local/hawker type stall in one of the residential HDB (housing development board) areas. When we pulled up our cabbie said, "oh this place, it is good, you wait a long time to eat here". Luckily the family that invited us to dinner had connections and called ahead. I stood in line waiting for the rest of our group and mentioned to the hostess that someone had called ahead for our group. Another person, the owner, came over and escorted us to our table and the food came out shortly after that. We had Butter crab, chili crab, playboy chicken, lemon chicken, fried rice, ribs, some other chicken, 5 large bottles of beer to share, the kids had sodas and it was only 144.00 sing!!! Ok, that may sound like alot of money but when you do the exchange it is about $92.00US!!! We ate at Clark Quay when we first arrived and it was over $400.00Sing for less food!!!! We had a great time out and will definately be taking our guests over there to eat again. Matt introduced me to the owner and I got her card to call ahead again.
As long as no one minds being the only westerners in the area! That is the key to good food in Singapore...eat where the locals eat, look for the long lines and busy stalls and ask questions.
